11-12 March 2010, Mainz (Germany)

Spectrum Harmonisation for Public Protection and Disaster Relief

Frequency Management Working Group (WG FM) of Electronic Communications Committee of CEPT organised a workshop on spectrum needs for the public protection and disaster relief (PPDR) communication systems.

The PPDR Workshop, took place in Mainz, Germany, 11-12 March 2010, brought together an array of stakeholders and experts in telecommunications used for public protection and disaster relief purposes. The aim of the Workshop was to collect further information and exchange views and ideas concerning the future PPDR systems, especially the broadband systems and it proved a unique opportunity to discuss some key issues related to the PPDR and the frequency bands to be used for these systems.

Following topics were included in the Workshop Programme: Introduction to PPDR, results of recent studies on PPDR in Europe, PPDR user requirements and deployment scenarios, standards and technology developments, industry views, spectrum harmonisation, candidate bands and sharing possibilities.

The Workshop went smoothly and finished successfully on the 12th of March. A big number of presentations were made and a panel session on PPDR issue was conducted with the presence of the ECC and WG FM chairmen with a particular focus on guidelines for further work.

The presentations made at the PPDR workshop could be reached via the link given above.

Further work on the frequency issues of PPDR will be taken on first by PT FM38, then by WG FM and finally by the ECC.

The result of the workshop has also been presented to the Civil/Military meeting which took place in Istanbul on 30-31 March 2010.

The presentations and other relevant documents considered at the Civil/Military meeting can be found in the document area, in the "Civil/Military meeting - Istanbul 2010" folder on the ECO web site.
